Skyline Advertisment Shoot

Photography No Comments »

It was snowing when I woke up today in St. Louis? Great…..luckily the snow melted but it was still freezing for an outdoor shoot so we improvised a little to get the advertisement done. We hopped in the Skyline in the morning and I begged Susan to take me to Wendy’s.

R34 Skyline

She had never been in a takeout line with the Skyline so we had some fun. The lady who handed us our food freaked out all confused like and asked Susan if she was a student driver? It was quite an interesting conversasion.

Here is Logan! Adrenaline Motorsports already built him a race car that he cruised all around the house in. It even has a Slide America sticker on it!

Luckily the snow didn’t stick or cause much of a problem so I grabbed the last flight of the day back home to Atlanta. Here is a shot from the flight home.

Arriving in St. Louis

Personal, Travel No Comments »

After about 4 hours in Atlanta I headed back to the airport to fly out to St. Louis and do a photoshoot on Susan’s R34 Skyline for an advertisement.

Another Airplane

Chuck picked me up from the airport and we headed to a place called Pio’s in St. Charles. It’s a family owned resteraunt from the 50’s and had some fantastic veal parmesan.

Pio's

After Pio’s we hit up Ameristar Casino for a long night of card playing. After that we headed back to the house and rested up for the big shoot tomorrow.

Super Bowl Sunday

Personal, Travel No Comments »

It was nice to spend a day relaxing and enjoying the Super Bowl at a friends house out in California.

TV

Super Bowl Sunday was luckily in a dome or it could of been plagued by some bad weather. It rained most of the day in California.

His girls didn’t care much for football so found as many other things they could do to bother us during the game. Gotta love little kids. I think they are all convinced that I am their annoying Uncle who only comes for certain event and takes random pictures of them for no reason.  Here they are enjoying the Super Bowl.

Hiding in the Pantry

Shortly after the game I rushed to LAX to catch my flight back to Atlanta so I could grab some clean clothes, switch to my camera gear and fly out on the afternoon flight to St. Louis.

What an amazing day I woke up to in California. It’s the day before the Super Bowl and Garage Boso is having a grand opening down in Gardena so I decided to pay a visit.

California Palm Tress

The first car I saw was Pat Attack’s S14! LJ Garcia just resprayed it for him the same color as his Feel’s widebody EK! How sick.

This was a white S15 sitting next to his car at the event.

Ross Petty’s old school Rotary Power Rx-7 was sitting their. I wish someone would bring this thing back into Formula D, by far one of my favorites. You can play with this car in the D1GP Playstation 2 game.

Apexi came out and supported the event and had a nice little booth with their Formula D car.

We peaked in next door to SR Motorcars where Dai Inada was working on his Nissan 350z.

I got a chance to hang out with Antonio and the guys from Schikane Clothing for a minute while Pat luckily brought us some Mexican Coca Cola from the store. It was delicious till it hit your stomach 20 minutes later.

Relaxing in Socal

Adventures, Personal, Travel No Comments »

After filming I hung out in Socal for a few days to catch up with some friends and get some business done while in town. I woke up and brought our equipment to the UPS Store and got a good laugh at these guys trying to box it up.

UPS Store

After that I swung by LAX, back to Anahiem and then headed to Hollywood for lunch. My friend is leaving Five Star Suites off Argyle where I have spent many nights on the couch. This place will be greatly missed!

This is a view out his living room window. If you look carefully in Slide America we shot one of the time lapses outside this window that made it into the final production of the film.

Hollywood View

I have actually filmed a ton of stuff off his porch as well. The sun rises straight behind the downtown LA in the morning and it looks amazing.

Hollywood

We headed to my favorite resteraunt in Hollywood called Bossa Nova. It is a Brazilian place tucked away on Sunset and La Brea. A very small place with a nice open air dining area and delicious food.

Bossa Nova

After lunch I made my way out west to Pasadena. I snapped this photo driving down Sunset Blvd. while sitting in excruciating traffic that went no where for at least two hours.

I finally made it to the Pasadena Production Studio to return some equipment from our shoots and walked down the street to a friends office complex. After catching up on some work we hopped in his car and went to pick up his girls from school and took them to Jumpin Jammin!

Black Caddilac Escalade

Once we brought his daughters back home I got unpacked at my new place and got ready for dinner with my friend Kate and we headed back to old town to eat at Louise’s Trattoria! After that we made a quick trip to Hollywood to pick up some camera equipment and then headed back home.

Last Day of Filming in California

Filming, PM Lifestyle No Comments »

To wrap up our filming we had three last stops on our final day to complete the filming portion of this video project. Our first stop in the morning took us to Long Beach, California where we went to Twin Turbos and met up with Chris Rado.

The car got me all excited in the shop was a s2000 with a 2JZ engine in it.

Here is the set where we shot the interview.

Kennedy Brothers - The Bomb Factory

The Bomb Factory is what Hot Rod Magazine refers to the Kennedy Brothers shop in Pomona, California. These guys were my favorite stop to date with the NOS tour around California we did.

The Shop

They had a cool Mobil gasoline pump that showed gas at 29 cents a gallon.

Right next to the gas pump was an old school period correct Nova that looked hideous from the back.

Later on we had the set almost staged for filming. This was my favorite car at the shop.

Here was the set once we were ready to start shooting. We had a fun time doing those interviews with these guys and cannot wait to put up some of the footage in NOS TV!

Rico Fodrey - Hi-Bond Modified

Filming, PM Lifestyle No Comments »

The next morning we drove way out to Pomona to visit Rico Fodrey who is most famous for a film released in 2005 called “The Sinners.” Choppertown is the world’s first documentary about the renowned hot rod and motorcycle club, the Sinners. Modern day greasers, the Sinners are all about the old school. None of them is old enough to have experienced the hot rod heydays of the ‘50s and ‘60s, but still they live on the edge of society chopping cars and bikes and searching for vintage parts to make their “Rat Rods”, “Trumps”, “Mercs”, and “Bobbers” into rolling works of art. It’s a great movie you can check out at Choppertown.net.

Here is how the rental car looked from the trunk on the morning of Day 3.

NOS Energy Drink

Before we even got to start filming the local PD paid us a visit at Rico’s shop and after we gave him a case of NOS Energy Drink he let us be.

California Police

The photographer for the week Gene Tjin showed great concern during this time because of something like 400 unpaid parking tickets down in Orange County. Luckily they never asked for anyone’s ID.

This was my favorite bike that Rico had sitting in the shop.

Then we did some filming with the bikes around town. This was not my finest moment in life.

After filming for a while we got lost out in BFE California and found this McDonald’s that was still operating today with this logo?

NOS signed Trevelen as a new athlete in 2008 so we spent some time at his shop shooting print ads and documenting his story. Gene Tjin was the photographer (Here is his blog Genetjin.com/blog.

Here is a photo of Trevelen taken by Gene Tjin.

Trevelen

Trevelen is mostly recognized from his biker build offs on the Discovery Channel. His office was full of amazing art and graffiti. The front area of the shop has this old vintage items like this old gas tank.

In his office upstairs he showed us the first ever issue of Lowrider Magazine.

They had a bunch of other random vintage artifacts laying around the office including some old refrigerators and an old television that Trev got to turn on.
