It’s a sad thought but Joeyredmond.net has NOT been updated or maintained at all so I am going to move the blog to one of the “Staff” blogs at Wrecked Magazine. Currently as the head editor/part owner of the magazine that is where I seem to spend all of my off time from doing client work so it makes sense to stick my blog over there. Now go visit the blog, I promise you this one will stay updated!!!!!!!

NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 Weekend!

Adventures, Filming, NASCAR, PM Lifestyle, Travel No Comments »

After visiting Joe Gibbs we headed to Lowe’s Motor Speedway to enjoy the longest race of the season mileage wise in NASCAR. 600 laps around the track in Charlotte would put each car on the track to quite a test. The Nationwide race the night before was excellent as Kyle Busch took home the victory in the #32 Dollar General car. Here is a little video from victory lane I shot.
Kyle Busch wins another race

Before the 600 we grabbed some Vietnamese food with Phil and the Theory guys at Pho Real in Charlotte. It was an excellent place and I got a great meal with fried rice, eggs, and beef!

Also before the race Kyle Busch visited the Coca-Cola stage on Speed Street to do an interview. After Kyle Busch took to the stage Stanton Barrett also came by for a chat with the fans.

Here is a view of the track from the back stretch of Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Right after Formula D we drove up to Mooresville, North Carolina to meet up with MMI and get ready for the NASCAR All-Star race weekend. Blair Stopnik took us to a great Carolina BBQ spot called Lancaster’s BBQ. It was full of NASCAR memorabilia.

Check out the #18 hood on the wall from the old Interstate Battery car!

NASCAR #43

Bryce from Joe Gibbs Racing took us on a full tour of the facility which was amazing. For you non NASCAR fans Joe Gibbs Racing runs the #20 car (Tony Stewart), # 18 car (Kyle Busch), and #11 car (Denny Hamlin). We were unable to take photos inside JGR but I snapped these from the viewing deck that visitors can watch the cars in the process of building.

Right after the Drift Alliance premiere we had Formula D Atlanta. What a blur that weekend was but I had a ton of fun wielding around a 300mm fixed 2.8/L I rented from PPR for the weekend.

Check out the gallery from the weekend here Wrecked Magazine Gallery

Somehow we got suckered into driving to the state of Misery Missouri instead of flying but we could tolerate it to see our homie Logan and the Adrenaline Motorsports team who is based out of St. Charles, Missouri! Here we are driving through Kentucky.

Driving Out West

Almost to Misery!

Infiniti G35

We arrived during the Friday practice/qualifying event that was cut very shot due to rain. Tyler Cox brought his redone S14 out with a 6 inch back exhaust on his Nissan for a new look.

Danny Lim shot photos all weekend for Wrecked Magazine and did an amazing job. Check out the Wrecked coverage at wreckedmagazine.com/gallery

The Nissan house has the 350z, S14 240sx, the Infiniti G35, and more Nissan’s in the garage! Camp Nissan out in the midwest. Chuck sadly had some car problems with the new setup all weekend. Hopefully he will make it out to Columbus in a couple weeks.

Nissan House

Logan is Chuck and Susan’s little baby. Here he is Monday morning before we left back towards Atlanta. He is sporting his mohawk and driving his little Nissan car! He is getting ready to start racing himself pretty soon so watch out for him.

Logan

I picked up Marty downtown at his hotel and he rode shotgun with me on the way home since his support vehicle broke down in Kentucky. What a mess but we had a great time rolling home. This was our last glance of St. Louis and the arch.

Gateway to the West

24 hours after arriving back home it’s off to Tokyo!

Formula D Long Beach

Adventures, Formula D, PM Lifestyle, Photography, Wrecked Magazine No Comments »

Formula D Long Beach was a great event at one of my favorite Formula D locations. Smack in the middle of downtown Long Beach the Formula D drivers get to tear up public roads on a closed course built for the CART series that runs the next weekend every year. I had a chance to pick up the good ol 30D and snap some photos for our magazine and respective clients. Andy who directed the Stay Hungry DVD got tired of battling the fence to get good shots and climbed a tree.

Ken Gushi debuted his RWD converted Scion tC and was able to secure a top 16 finish for the weekend.

After the event I found a new Pinkberry in Long Beach. Kate STILL owes me Pinkberry from my trip in February but she was in India when I came to visit so she still owes me Pinkberry and I am not going to forget Kate! Haha, the area this Pinkberry was located in was a strange place but my order came out perfect! The rice cake topping is just to good to be true. They need to hurry up and get Pinkberry on the east coast.

Global Warming is really hitting California………no really. However it was hot for mid April the day after the Formula D event, 102 was registered in our rental Buick in Pasadena! Ick. Speaking of ick look at the joy Southern California brought us in the form of traffic.

All in all it was a fun week in California and on Sunday night I hopped on a plane to St. Louis, Missouri for a photoshoot with some of my favorite people at Adrenaline Motorsports.

Arriving in Los Angeles!

Adventures, Formula D, PM Lifestyle, Photography, Travel No Comments »

So the blog is still like a month plus behind but I am going into high gear to get caught up before anything interesting really happens….or so we hope. I hopped on yet another Airtran Flight to LAX and landed very early Tuesday morning.

Flight to LAX

I took off from LAX and headed to Pine Street on Long Beach where the roads are already closed off for Formula D Round 1 and the Long Beach Grand Prix.

Long Beach, California

A few drivers and many media attended this day to see the new rides for 2008 and view the first public Drifting runs of 2008 on the Long Beach track! The sessions were short but it was nice and very exciting to get back into the Drifting mode.

Media Day at Formula D

I ran to Beverly Hills to visit the myspace.com office to visit some friends and the new cafe they installed on the top floor of the complex. I actually got a great sandwich from up there and snapped a nice photo of the Hills from the cafe window.

Myspace.com Cafe

From myspace we took off to Anaheim to attend the Riceboy TV Dromo 1 go kart party. It seemed like everyone had a great time and I got to catch up with an old friend from IGN.com Justin Kahler who is now working with Riceboy TV full time. Pat Attack was dominating in the go karts all night long!

We hit up Miami and drove up to Moroso Motorsports Park. Beforehand we stopped by some friends offices and enjoyed southern Florida.

Ryan Meloy shot photos over the weekend for Wrecked Magazine and showed us where the Pizza Rustica was in Boca! Good call Ryan, we ate there three times over the weekend!

Delivery at PM Lifestyle and a quick run to NYC!

After a long week at SXSW it was nice to come home to a present. We got a delivery from Phil at NOS Energy Drink in the form of a commercial NOS fridge! Here is our delivery coming in, thanks Phil!

After this arrived I hopped on a plane to New York City to visit Fuze in New Jersey. This was the line in the atrium to get to the line for security. What a disaster ATL security can be at times.

At the office they have Stanton Barrett’s NASCAR Busch hood from the Dover race last year up on the wall.

On the way back to Laguardia (LGA) we passed by Yankee Stadium! I have been to New York a few times but had never seen the place. They are building a new stadium right next to it.

SXSW Friday - Stubb’s BBQ - N.E.R.D - Britney Spears?

N.E.R.D, PM Lifestyle, SXSW, Travel No Comments »

SXSW Friday seemed to drag on forever. Myself and Phil had one main goal, see the N.E.R.D show at 1am at Stubb’s BBQ but that was no easy task and required some careful planning and some trickery to make sure we got in and got some solid placement. We hit up Hickory Street again for breakfast and it took forever……..they need to step up the cook staff at that place or something, at least for SXSW week. The day was a blur waiting for the sun to set and the Stubb’s show to kick off at 9pm.

We started the day back at Emo’s where Fuze did some activation for the day concerts and we enjoyed some great bands for a while before we head over to Townlake Stage.

Emo's Austin

This bus sat on 6th street all week and I assumed it was something important until I saw a cop writing a ticket for it being on the road after they closed it on Friday. Hmmm, worth the advertising I guess?

How's Your News?

Pulling into the parking deck at Townlake Stage we found a sign that said “Out of Service” which doesn’t seem to strange until you see what it was on. An old Ford van? I hope this wasn’t a taxi or something people dared to use.

Out of Service

Ford Van

So it was crunch time and definitly time to get to Stubb’s BBQ to get to our 1am concert about 8pm. We swung into a pizza spot called Ropollos that had a vibe very similar to my favorite south beach spot called Pizza Rustica but it was subpar on quality by far but did have a walk up window!

Ropollos Austin, Texas

So Phil and myself walked into hear N.E.R.D around 9:30pm just to make sure we got in and we sure did. Not to long after that they stopped letting people in we found out and were ecstatic to be holding a spot. So many horrible bands played before them that I couldn’t even count and while standing in the crowd rumors started flying that Britney Spears was going to play with them? Even MTV reported later that Spears was a no show and I don’t think a single person in that whole crowd cared one bit MTV.com on Stubbs Event and no Spears. It took N.E.R.D about 45 minutes to get set up which seemed like an eternity!

Waiting at Stubbs BBQ

We secured a standing room third row spot or so for the venue as it’s in the back of a BBQ restertaunt so we lacked pleasures like stadium seating or seating at all. That wasn’t on my list of concerns either and all the sudden Pharrell and possie came out and started to rip and this place went CRAZY.

N.E.R.D SXSW 2008

They opened with a new song off the album Seeing Sounds then played the classic song Brain. Skipping along they ended up smashing out three hits in a row with Backseat Love, Maybe, and Rockstar. During Rockstar N.E.R.D let a crowd of people come on the stage so they could jam out.

NERD - Performing Rockstar

Pharrell Williams

Randomly the guy just off my camera to the left took off his shirt in the middle of the concert and then wouldn’t leave once everyone else got off stage. He was standing in the middle of the stage holding up a 93.3 t-shirt (because we all care about his bad hip hop station) that he had to take off his body to show us? None of this makes sense I know but finally Pharrell politely told him to remove himself because he had a show to do and the guy finally left or got pulled off by a bouncer. The concert then picked up once again with a new song I just loved and then the old hit Lapdance.

NERD - Stubb's BBQ

They went past their curfew and were told to leave but kept playing as everyone was still going crazy after 10 songs. After their finale song She Wants to Move the band busted out into some Queen - Another One Bites the Dust and finally closed up shop.

N.E.R.D Seeing Sounds

Nobody moved once the band walked off stage and everyone chanted “One More Song” and Pharrell came back and apologized saying they couldn’t be given any more time and walked off to an insane ovation. What a night! Cannot wait for the new album in June. Sadly we couldn’t hang out for Saturday too long so this is a wrap on my South by Southwest week.  See everyone next year.
