It’s a sad thought but Joeyredmond.net has NOT been updated or maintained at all so I am going to move the blog to one of the “Staff” blogs at Wrecked Magazine. Currently as the head editor/part owner of the magazine that is where I seem to spend all of my off time from doing client work so it makes sense to stick my blog over there. Now go visit the blog, I promise you this one will stay updated!!!!!!!

Billionare Boys Club Flagship Store - Harajuku

Adventures, Japan, N.E.R.D, Travel No Comments »

I got shot down taking pictures at BBC Harajuku real fast by some employee’s but I scavenged some entertainment for you from some other locations. Let me tell you first off you could miss this place looking for it no problem. You walk down this alley and weave down this road forever passing Supreme and some other well known streetwear stores until alast, you find BBC tucked away in the Basement floor of this building pretty much.

BBC Japan

If you walk straight through the automatic doors you will find your way through a space portal that says Wealth is of the heart and mind if i remember correctly. Once you exit the space portal you find yourself in the middle of the Billionaire Boys Club side of the store.  This is definitly the cooler side of the store and where I made a purchase of a Summer 08 tee before the line came back to America.

Billionaire Boys Club

The Ice Cream side of the store was on the other side of the red spaceship but you must walk back through the space portal to access Ice Cream. Ice Cream was setup like a small ice cream store with shoes in the ice cream dishes behind the counter and all. A very solid setup on that end as well and one of the best clothing stores in Harajuku I visited this trip.

You get to take home your purchase in this awesome little bags. Here is a picture of mine back at my hotel room. They have the spaceman from BBC on the other side of the bag in a black colorway.

N.E.R.D - Everybody Nose Music Video

N.E.R.D No Comments »

The first time I fully watched the video it reminded me of some low budget version of a bad 80’s film about blow…..but you know, I watched it again and I kind of liked it and then a third time with some more enjoyment. For all the celebustalkers out in this world you will notice a quick Lindsay Lohan appearance which made my day. Lindsay Lohan in this music video is perfect! The BBC blog just released a remix of this song with C.R.S and Pusha T. It is a great listen and for all you N.E.R.D fans the album comes out June 10th, so be ready!

SXSW Friday - Stubb’s BBQ - N.E.R.D - Britney Spears?

N.E.R.D, PM Lifestyle, SXSW, Travel No Comments »

SXSW Friday seemed to drag on forever. Myself and Phil had one main goal, see the N.E.R.D show at 1am at Stubb’s BBQ but that was no easy task and required some careful planning and some trickery to make sure we got in and got some solid placement. We hit up Hickory Street again for breakfast and it took forever……..they need to step up the cook staff at that place or something, at least for SXSW week. The day was a blur waiting for the sun to set and the Stubb’s show to kick off at 9pm.

We started the day back at Emo’s where Fuze did some activation for the day concerts and we enjoyed some great bands for a while before we head over to Townlake Stage.

Emo's Austin

This bus sat on 6th street all week and I assumed it was something important until I saw a cop writing a ticket for it being on the road after they closed it on Friday. Hmmm, worth the advertising I guess?

How's Your News?

Pulling into the parking deck at Townlake Stage we found a sign that said “Out of Service” which doesn’t seem to strange until you see what it was on. An old Ford van? I hope this wasn’t a taxi or something people dared to use.

So it was crunch time and definitly time to get to Stubb’s BBQ to get to our 1am concert about 8pm. We swung into a pizza spot called Ropollos that had a vibe very similar to my favorite south beach spot called Pizza Rustica but it was subpar on quality by far but did have a walk up window!

Ropollos Austin, Texas

So Phil and myself walked into hear N.E.R.D around 9:30pm just to make sure we got in and we sure did. Not to long after that they stopped letting people in we found out and were ecstatic to be holding a spot. So many horrible bands played before them that I couldn’t even count and while standing in the crowd rumors started flying that Britney Spears was going to play with them? Even MTV reported later that Spears was a no show and I don’t think a single person in that whole crowd cared one bit MTV.com on Stubbs Event and no Spears. It took N.E.R.D about 45 minutes to get set up which seemed like an eternity!

Waiting at Stubbs BBQ

We secured a standing room third row spot or so for the venue as it’s in the back of a BBQ restertaunt so we lacked pleasures like stadium seating or seating at all. That wasn’t on my list of concerns either and all the sudden Pharrell and possie came out and started to rip and this place went CRAZY.

N.E.R.D SXSW 2008

They opened with a new song off the album Seeing Sounds then played the classic song Brain. Skipping along they ended up smashing out three hits in a row with Backseat Love, Maybe, and Rockstar. During Rockstar N.E.R.D let a crowd of people come on the stage so they could jam out.

Pharrell Williams

Randomly the guy just off my camera to the left took off his shirt in the middle of the concert and then wouldn’t leave once everyone else got off stage. He was standing in the middle of the stage holding up a 93.3 t-shirt (because we all care about his bad hip hop station) that he had to take off his body to show us? None of this makes sense I know but finally Pharrell politely told him to remove himself because he had a show to do and the guy finally left or got pulled off by a bouncer. The concert then picked up once again with a new song I just loved and then the old hit Lapdance.

NERD - Stubb's BBQ

They went past their curfew and were told to leave but kept playing as everyone was still going crazy after 10 songs. After their finale song She Wants to Move the band busted out into some Queen - Another One Bites the Dust and finally closed up shop.

N.E.R.D Seeing Sounds

Nobody moved once the band walked off stage and everyone chanted “One More Song” and Pharrell came back and apologized saying they couldn’t be given any more time and walked off to an insane ovation. What a night! Cannot wait for the new album in June. Sadly we couldn’t hang out for Saturday too long so this is a wrap on my South by Southwest week.  See everyone next year.

SXSW Thursday - Dell Lounge - Townlake Stage - Fader Fort!

Adventures, N.E.R.D, PM Lifestyle, Travel No Comments »

Thursday was a busy one that we kicked off with some great lunch Tex-Mex food at Iron Cactus right on Sixth Street in Austin. Anything before lunch I don’t have a picture of because I was in some tired and confused daze apparently. We ate at Hickory Street which was recommended by a girl who worked at the hotel and it was an awesome spot even though they had a special SXSW limited menu and I couldn’t get a Frisco Melt! They even had courtesy squirt guns to spray the pigeons but I failed on photos, sorry! This car was sitting in front of this place called 1886 in downtown Austin and I am still on my classic car kick so I had to snap a photo of it.

We went to the end of the Sixth Street clubs and walked to Volume Night Club which was hosting the Dell Lounge event for the day. Here is a hideous photo I took while upstairs at the Dell Lounge inside Volume. Kettle One Vodka and Fuze Beverage had an ice sculpture upstairs. Apparently I was to excited to take a non blurry photo?

After Volume Night Club we headed over to Townlake Stage to get ready for the big outdoor concerts for the night. As we were doing some filming/setup M1 from Dead Presidents apparently hopped on the stage with no more than 30 people in front of the stage and jammed out. I noticed him when they played “Hip Hop.” That is still a favorite hip-hop song of mine but I had no idea they were still around. The song most recently came back as it’s a playable track on your Sidekick 3 in EA Skate. M1 is actually from Tallahassee, Florida where T-Pain is from who recently has seemed to of taken over hip hop.

Then as the bands kept playing the crowd got bigger and bigger and bigger and eventually I seeked refuge free food backstage and enjoyed the rest of the evening.

We were able to get out for the Spoon concert that PACKED the outdoor venue out! Spoon is local to Austin, Texas but very popular in the Indie Music scene nationwide. It seemed like they played forever and the crowd ate up every minute of it! It was the biggest crowd I witnessed all week for a concert but it also helped that it was the biggest venue. Here is the crowd ready for Spoon to come out.

We hit up a few other concerts then went back to the hotel to relax for a few until meeting back up with Mike…..

Now remember I showed you that the Fader Fort was essentially across the street from my hotel room two posts ago right? Well I kept my window open to keep fresh air going and all the sudden I heard N.E.R.D playing at the Fader Fort. I couldn’t believe it, I freaked out called Phil and told him to meet me in the elevator. We ran across the street and grabbed the tail end of the concert but were prepared the next day to catch the full deal at Stubb’s BBQ for Friday night. I fail because I didn’t snap photos in our rush operation I think I left my phone behind but it’s alright because Fader Magazine posted an awesome video to show you how crazy the Fader Fort got as N.E.R.D closed out for the night.
