It’s a sad thought but Joeyredmond.net has NOT been updated or maintained at all so I am going to move the blog to one of the “Staff” blogs at Wrecked Magazine. Currently as the head editor/part owner of the magazine that is where I seem to spend all of my off time from doing client work so it makes sense to stick my blog over there. Now go visit the blog, I promise you this one will stay updated!!!!!!!

Formula D Atlanta

Right after the Drift Alliance premiere we had Formula D Atlanta. What a blur that weekend was but I had a ton of fun wielding around a 300mm fixed 2.8/L I rented from PPR for the weekend.

Check out the gallery from the weekend here Wrecked Magazine Gallery

On Sunday I met up with Antonio Alvendia and some friends to hit up Daddy D’z!

Antonio discovered that I did know where the best corn bread and macaroni/cheese was in Atlanta. He then shot this Chevelle right in front of Daddy D’z for Speedhunters.

Drift Alliance - Stay Hungry Premiere

Formula D, Wrecked Magazine No Comments »

Well I made it back to the United States just in time for the Drift Alliance Premiere at the MAC theater in Atlanta. Everyone showed up early and was ready to walk the red carpet and see the new Drift Alliance movie the guys had been working on forever.

Lindsay was my guest to the event.

Here are the guys from MMI getting ready just before the movie started.

Here is Chris Forsberg doing an interview with Wrecked Magazine before the movie starts.

Formula D Long Beach

Formula D Long Beach was a great event at one of my favorite Formula D locations. Smack in the middle of downtown Long Beach the Formula D drivers get to tear up public roads on a closed course built for the CART series that runs the next weekend every year. I had a chance to pick up the good ol 30D and snap some photos for our magazine and respective clients. Andy who directed the Stay Hungry DVD got tired of battling the fence to get good shots and climbed a tree.

Ken Gushi debuted his RWD converted Scion tC and was able to secure a top 16 finish for the weekend.

After the event I found a new Pinkberry in Long Beach. Kate STILL owes me Pinkberry from my trip in February but she was in India when I came to visit so she still owes me Pinkberry and I am not going to forget Kate! Haha, the area this Pinkberry was located in was a strange place but my order came out perfect! The rice cake topping is just to good to be true. They need to hurry up and get Pinkberry on the east coast.

Global Warming is really hitting California………no really. However it was hot for mid April the day after the Formula D event, 102 was registered in our rental Buick in Pasadena! Ick. Speaking of ick look at the joy Southern California brought us in the form of traffic.

Global Warming

All in all it was a fun week in California and on Sunday night I hopped on a plane to St. Louis, Missouri for a photoshoot with some of my favorite people at Adrenaline Motorsports.

Falken Private Test Day and Drift Alliance “Hollywood” Photoshoot

Pat Attack and myself joined forces to drive from Redando Beach to San Bernardino’s NOS center so we could sneak a peak for the Wrecked Magazine viewers of what Falken Tires had in store for us around the corner at Formula D that started in around 48 hours. It was a long drive….and I mean long and whatever crappy Tiger Woods Buick they put us in did not help, that stupid Enclave!? ick! Here is Pat excited that I took him out of P.E. or whatever classes 17 year old race car drivers go to during the week.

Wheelman

Once at the NOS Center we found Darren McNamara’s new Falken Tires Saturn Sky unwrapped and freshly rolled off of a trailer.

After a long haul back towards the beach we landed a couple minutes early and visited RSR to see how Rhys Millen and Daijiro were doing on their collective cars for the weekend. Then we hit Huntington Beach and waited for Q from Pimp my Ride and our Lamborghini we were to take to the beach.

Huntington Beach, California

Once we all met up we swung into Starbucks for some quick coffee and the “special” employee behind the counter decided to rename myself  to Joyce. That is a new version of cosplay on me!

Starbucks

We found a public beach that was still open a few miles from the pier which was nice and deserted for the photo shoot. The sun and location came out perfect and I had a blast shooting the Drift Alliance for the Issue 4 cover in preparation for the new film Stay Hungry!

Orange Lambo in Cali

Here are two snap shots from the photoshoots in RAW unedited format. These photos would both be used for the Issue 4 cover story in Wrecked Magazine.

After all that I had to pay for the Lambo rental with some beer and taco’s at FRED’s right up the street on the pier. We rushed right over after discarding the minors we had with us *cough* Little Pat *cough* and went to get rested up for Formula D setup day which started very early Thursday morning.

Arriving in Los Angeles!

So the blog is still like a month plus behind but I am going into high gear to get caught up before anything interesting really happens….or so we hope. I hopped on yet another Airtran Flight to LAX and landed very early Tuesday morning.

Flight to LAX

I took off from LAX and headed to Pine Street on Long Beach where the roads are already closed off for Formula D Round 1 and the Long Beach Grand Prix.

Long Beach, California

A few drivers and many media attended this day to see the new rides for 2008 and view the first public Drifting runs of 2008 on the Long Beach track! The sessions were short but it was nice and very exciting to get back into the Drifting mode.

Media Day at Formula D

I ran to Beverly Hills to visit the myspace.com office to visit some friends and the new cafe they installed on the top floor of the complex. I actually got a great sandwich from up there and snapped a nice photo of the Hills from the cafe window.

Myspace.com Cafe

From myspace we took off to Anaheim to attend the Riceboy TV Dromo 1 go kart party. It seemed like everyone had a great time and I got to catch up with an old friend from IGN.com Justin Kahler who is now working with Riceboy TV full time. Pat Attack was dominating in the go karts all night long!

NOS Energy Drink just sent out a mailer congratulating Kyle Busch on winning the Phoenix NASCAR Busch race and Chris Forsberg for taking home first at the First Round of Formula D. I provided the photography for the Chris Forsberg section in the mailer. The guys at Theory did a great job at laying out this piece the day after the weekend races!

Formula D- Round 6: Dirty Jersey

Adventures, Formula D, Photography, Travel No Comments »

Right when we got into town we swung over to Times Square and chilled out in New York City for a minute. Hooman lives in the Financial District just a few blocks from where the World Trade Center was and it was awesome to be able to swing by and admire the spot where the towers were. It was mind blowing to see the space missing (a whole city block) in the middle of Manhattan.

Times Square

Once we finally made it down to Jersey it was promising to be a great event. This was the sign at the entrance of the track after we finally found it……someone struggled with the navigation but we won’t say any names! Gotta love the DA boys always up to some kind of trouble!

The Track

The event was great. Sam Hubinette and Chris Cook had some insane battles with Chris Cook winding up on top. The RMR Solstice got the crap kicked out of it. First it was rammed by Ross Petty in top 16 and then it kissed Dai on the bank in the finals. Hopefully nothing too bad happened and it will be 100% at Irwindale for the finals coming up next month.

Rhys Millen Crash

After awards Mike Shin let things get out of hand……first I got rammed in the ass with am umbrella……associating Mike Shin and my ass being rammed is kind of awkward however, but we like Mike Shin now, after working for Toyo Tires he got smart and now shoots Canon.

Here is another worthless picture, Photo Credit: Mike Shin.

Formula D Sonoma

Formula D, Photography, Travel No Comments »

Well for starters we stayed at the Inn Marion in Novado and they took out the damn diving board, weak! So that set a horrible mood for the weekend in Northern California. The race was great though but I was insanely busy filming and shooting pictures.

The fog on the 101 was insane, here is us crossing the Golden Gate Bridge.

Formula D was pretty wild. The Drift Alliance ended up taking home first and second place which was just crazy! The best image of the weekend has to be Calvin Wan’s Infiniti G35. Calvin was looking good till this accident in qualifying, I am sure it was extra frustrating for him being that this was his home track.

Me on the sidelines……hard at work or hardly working?

Somehow I lived to wake up another day after eating this………Go animal style or go home!

Formula D Summit Point: It’s still hot and Bridgestone luckily has a/c!

Formula D, Travel 1 Comment »

Yes, I need to extend a big thank you to Bridgestone for letting me hide inside the motorcycle rig they brought. It had some lovely air conditioning and Direct TV! Well when I finally made it out to the track, they had some wild qualifying runs!

Andy snapped this picture in the pits today. I never made it over to see the car but Ben Schwartz after laying down some monster runs ran off the bank in turn one. Luckily he was okay and hopefully Falken/Sears Auto can get the car back together for Seattle.

A ton of guys just ran into problems with cars this weekend as well. Ken Gushi wasn’t able to compete due to a blown transmission as well. Coming out of qualifying we got to see a pretty crazy mix up for tandem! Chris Forsberg coming off his Atlanta victory qualified first proving he would be a contender to the points race this season.

Here is the Main Event Top 16 for Summit Point.

16. Hiro Sumida
15. Chris Cook
14. Vaughn Gitten JR
13. Rhys Millen
12. Kazu Hayashida
11. Darren McNamara
10. Mitsuru Haraguchi
9. Bill Sherman
8. Sam Hubinette
7. Daijiro Yoshihara
6. Ryan Tuerck
5. Ryuji Miki
4. Kenji Yamanaka
3. Tyler McQuarrie
2. Tanner Foust
1. Chris Forsberg
This picture doesn’t need a caption…….

After a crazy tandem battle Sam Hubinette in the Mopar Charger came out on top! So many people had car troubles and other issues…..it was anybody’s battle. Tanner Foust finished in 2nd place and Rhys Millen took home 3rd for Red Bull/Bridgestone. Here is Gary and CK Media doing a post race interview with Sam Hubinette.

I went to go send my congrats to Darren (Mopar PR) and I got to the rig just in time to see this masterful prank go down. Darren asked Sam to walk over and do a post interview for the Mo-Pod Internet Podcast and bam! This happened…….

All and all it was a great weekend and we are all ready for Seattle. If you want to see coverage, I have some shots up at everythingdrift.com.
